GET UP HIGH
HIGHLINE 179 & CASTLE EHRENBERG
A breathtaking experience awaits you just across the border between Germany and Austria. The suspension bridge “highline179” connects the castle complex “Burg Ehrenberg” with “Fort Claudia” on the other side of the gorge–from a height of 114 metres. It guarantees you a tremendous view of the valley and its surroundings and makes for an unforgettable experience.
You can reach the bridge via a short hike starting at the historical stronghold in the valley and leading up to the ruins of the “Ehrenberg” castle. Alternatively, the bridge can be accessed barrier-free via an inclined lift.
The “Klausen” fortress and the “Ehrenberg” castle were once the largest and most important strongholds in the area. When hiking to the bridge, you will pass the ruins, and it is well worth your time to make a short stop and learn more about their intriguing history. The museum in the valley provides more information and the opportunity to stop for a delicious meal.

HISTORY
ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARC CAMBODUNUM
Did you know? You have arrived in the oldest city in Germany!
This area by the “Iller” has been populated for more than 2,000 years now. Kempten–formerly called “Cambodunum”–was, at the time, a very important city with many buildings which now have historical significance.
The archaeological park “Cambodunum” (APC), only ten minutes by foot from the hotel, is the largest Roman park in southern Germany and showcases the archaeological findings from the Roman city of Cambodunum.
The ancient way of living becomes evident in monuments and findings from over 130 years of archaeological work. Discover the temple district and the small thermal baths, the private bath of the Roman governor. In the open park area, the foundation walls of the forum and basilica mark the centre of the first capital of the alp province “Rhaetia”.
Opening hours indoor area & museum: March-November, Tuesday to Sunday 10:00 to 17:00.
