MUCH TO DISCOVER

ALLGÄU MOUNTAIN FARMER MUSEUM

The Allgäu mountain farmer museum (“Allgäuer Bergbauernmuseum”) is an unforgettable experience, especially for families with small children. Excitement, fun and a lot of action await you. The picturesque historical buildings of the open-air museum, at a height of 1,000 metres, allows visitors to dive headfirst into the life of mountain farmers 200 years ago. The “Sattler” farm provides fascinating insights into milk production with a walk-in cow stomach and informative explanatory videos. Visitors can become active, play in the hay barn, load hay with pedal tractors or explore the adventure playground. The museum is also home to old animal breeds, such as the “Allgäuer Braunvieh” cow, mountain sheep and silver Italian chickens. The “Rosshütte” with its poacher’s room gives an impressive visualisation of how mountain farmers transported wood and tells gripping stories of hunting and poaching in the Alps.

After a successful day out, the alp “Höfle-Alp” is the perfect place to dine while enjoying a beautiful panoramic view.

HISTORY

ARCHAEOLOGICAL PARC CAMBODUNUM

Did you know? You have arrived in the oldest city in Germany!

This area by the “Iller” has been populated for more than 2,000 years now. Kempten–formerly called “Cambodunum”–was, at the time, a very important city with many buildings which now have historical significance.

The archaeological park “Cambodunum” (APC), only ten minutes by foot from the hotel, is the largest Roman park in southern Germany and showcases the archaeological findings from the Roman city of Cambodunum.

The ancient way of living becomes evident in monuments and findings from over 130 years of archaeological work. Discover the temple district and the small thermal baths, the private bath of the Roman governor. In the open park area, the foundation walls of the forum and basilica mark the centre of the first capital of the alp province “Rhaetia”.

Opening hours indoor area & museum: March-November, Tuesday to Sunday 10 am – 5 pm

PETTING ZOO IN BURGBERG

A very special experience, especially for our small guests: the petting zoo “Burgberger Streichelzoo”. Here, your children can watch and pet goats, chickens, lambs and many other animals. This charming little petting zoo is perfect for an outing into the world of animals. The cosy terrace invites you to sit down for a meal and also allows you to continue watching the animals.

We ask you to treat the animals with respect and care.

CLOSE TO NATURE

SQUIRREL FOREST IN FISCHEN

In the forest “Weidachwald” in Fischen, you can experience trusting squirrels in their natural habitat. This is a part of the forest and not an animal park. The animals live under ideal conditions and are used to visitors. You can offer them the right kinds of treats, such as walnuts, hazelnuts, sunflower seeds, apples or carrots, and if you are lucky, they might eat them from your hand. We ask you to treat the animals with respect and care.

A path with five stops provides information about squirrels.

The forest is perfect for families with children and is easy to reach from the grocery store “Netto”. Cross the train tracks at the right and then pass the playground and herb garden. The adventure begins directly behind the minigolf course in the forest.
