„The view over the snow-covered summits in the distance is magnificent!“
The Steineberg is a quite easily accessible panoramic mountain above the valley of the river Iller and is one of the most popular summit destinations in this region. It is part of the international project “Naturpark Nagelfluhkette”. We hike upwards on varied terrain and in a flora and fauna that differs the higher we get.
At the end of our hike, sure-footedness and suitability for altitude are essential as a long ladder leads to the summit. Those who don’t want to climb the ladder or who are accompanied by a dog can take another path. Every year at the end of August, a mountain worship is held at the summit cross.
On our way back, we optionally pass the summit Bärenköpfle (1,463 m) where the last bear is said to have been killed in 1760.
The ascent is also possible from Gunzesried via the alp “Vordere Krumbach-Alpe”.
Alternatively, for those who want to get to the summit more easily, you can also take the chairlift from Immenstadt.
