“The best time to be there is at sunset. Whether it’s winter or summer, it’s always stunning.”
“Grünten”, called the “Guardian of the Allgäu” due to its height and location, is the perfect mountain for an outing. The mountain, immediately recognisable by its red and white transmission mast, is an imposing 1,738 metres high.
The hike up takes about 1.5 to 2 hours. Park your car at the parking lot “Kammeregg” (don’t forget to bring about €4 in change) and then follow the signs to the mountain infantry monument on the peak of the mountain. The trail is mostly moderately steep and narrow and leads past some beautiful viewpoints, mountain pastures and, if you are lucky, some cows. Shortly before you reach the peak, the trail becomes a little more rocky, but with some caution, this is not a problem. After enjoying the view and hiking back down, you can close out the day with a meal in one of the cosy restaurants.
